Thomas Andrews Biography by Stephen Cameron

Hi,

Pardon my ignorance. A quick search revealed nothing in the board archives. I've heard a lot in the past about this book -- first publication was to be late 1999, then summer 2000, then 2001.

What has become of it?

Best regards,

Mark.

Don't have a clue. Maybe this was something that died befor it was even published? I seem to recall a book on ocean liners written by Leo Marriot that went by the wayside like this. However, I checked Amazon.com and Amazon.uk and found nothing.

Hi Mike,

Same here. Hopefully it has just been delayed for ages and not cancelled altogether. The publishing world can be extremely sluggish.

Best regards,

Mark.

Sluggish or downright behind the power curve. I finally managed to get a hold of Norman Polmar's "Cold War Submarines" which Amazon.com had listed as "This title not yet released" as of two weeks ago. Barnes & Noble had it so I snapped it up.

I haven't heard anything recently about whether or not Cameron's bio of Andrews will be published - it would be a great pity if anything had happened to delay or cancel its publication, if Cameron's excellent, fresh and well researched debut work, Belfast's Own, is anything to judge by. I need to contact him on another issue some time soon, and will ask if there's any further news on a possible publication date.

In 'Belfast's Own' Cameron touched upon his knowledge of Thomas Andrews in a mini-biography. I had heard somewhere that he was going to expand upon this mini work, but I never did hear of a firm publishing date. In the meantime do yourselves a favor and try to get a copy of 'Belfast's Own', you won't regret it.

Hi Mike, Inger, Susan!

Thanks for your replies. I really hope the Andrews biography sees the light of day sometime. I particularly hope so since a specific date of March 2000 was once mooted.

Anyway, thanks again.

Best regards,

Mark.

THis is a bit strange as I was convinced there was info on the state of play for Cameron's biograpy on Andrews on this board... and there's not. I also thought Inger had updated me a while back, but from her above post, clearly not.

Maybe it was Geoff Whitfield who had more recent info? Or Senan Molony? Last I remember was that apparently the publisher felt the book market was saturated with Titanic tomes and that another Andrews biography just wasn't what they wanted for that year's catalogue. However, this is memory rather than a direct quote of what anyone's told me, so I better go and check it.

Unfortunately it seems as though Cameron's window of opportunity with his previous publisher is long gone. Here's hoping that another opportunity can be created.
