I have just signed up to the site (a great site) in order to relay the following fascinating old family story that resurfaced recently.
Mr T. Casey (see crew lists) was a trimmer on board the Titanic who died when the ship sank, his body never recovered.
This man, Casey, was my great, great uncle and we know that he did not die on the Titanic. He was due to sail but, after a few beers too many the night before the Titanic sailed, he fell asleep in his lodgings in Southampton only to wake up and find that everything he owned had been stolen, including his Titanic documentation.
We know this because he turned up on the doorstep alive and well in 1932, much to everyone's surprise! My Grandfather (Casey was his uncle on his mother's side) remembers this event clearly (he was 12 years old when Casey reappeared).
Therefore, the man lying at the bottom of the Atlantic is not Casey......

Jamie, while I always take these family tales with a grain of salt, your story is at least possible.
There is a verified similar story about a fireman named Thomas Hart. Hart's seaman's record book was stolen and it was evidently used by somebody to join Titanic. Hart was thought to be lost, but he turned up at home a few days after the sinking, feeling ashamed of his carelessness.
I find the long gap between the sinking and the reappearance a bit suspicious. Would the man really have been so unkind to his relatives?
Have you a signature from your man, for comparison with the one on the crew signing on list?

His sister(my great grandmother, Mrs Annie Carroll) collected the amount of £1-8s-2d per month from the Titanic Relief Fund, returning home on each occasion saying "Not much for a life, is it"?
I would welcome a reply from the poster of the original message and would also welcome comments.

I am new to the site. I believe I am related to Thomas Casey, a trimmer. His bio only lists his age, 28, that he was single and embarked at South Hampton. Does anyone have any more info?

I did find this, but the odds that the email address is still usable after 14 years is slim. This person does seem to give information about Thomas's parents and siblings, though. What other resources have you looked at so far?

I am hoping that Phil Hind can post the previoues enquiries into this case as I need to ask Damian Quinn some questions relating to his claim of the 21st August 2011. Otherwise this case into Thomas Casey remains open for all too debate.

Tom Casey was a Trimmer on the 12-4 watch and as such would have been a room mate of my G-Grandfather Walter Fredericks. I wonder if Tom was one of those who promised to buy Walt a beer in New York as they played cards at the mess table. (Walt turned 21 on 14th April 1912) It is certainly a possibility. The 12-4 Trimmers were housed on E-deck on the Starboard side of the ship in the bow
