Hi, Folks,

Just wanted to let everyone know about the Titanic International Society convention in New York City (based at a hotel in Secaucus, New Jersey) on May 16, 17 & 18, 2008. There is a lot of info on the TIS site (www.titanicinternationalsociety.org ) if you click on "Convention 2008" on the home page. That will take you to our convention blog. You can print out a registration form there to register via "snail mail" or you can pay using PayPal. Some of the highlights will be P.H. Nargeolet speaking about the 2007 Carpathia expedition he took part in, Roy Mengot giving a presentation about his latest research on the Titanic's breakup and Alan Ruffman as our banquet speaker about latest developments in the saga of the "unknown child." PLUS we'll have an all-day bus tour of New York City Titanic sites. It's shaping up to be an amazing weekend. Hope you can join us. You need not be a member to attend, but of course, we'd love to have you join TIS.

The registration deadline for the Titanic International Society convention in New Jersey and New York is less than a month away (April 21). If you haven't decided to attend yet, take a look at our Web site (http://www.titanicinternationalsociety.org/) and click on "Convention 2008." All the info you need should be there, including a registration form. We've made it extra convenient this year by setting it up so you can pay using PayPal if you prefer. If you're a TIS member, there's a flier with registration form in the current issue of Voyage, which you should have received recently.

The convention is Friday, May 16 - Sunday, May 17 at the Crowne Plaza Meadowlands Hotel in Secaucus, New Jersey. We've gotten a special convention rate of $139 per room per night, which is good for up to 6 days--a really good rate for the metropolitan New York area!

There will be several exciting programs: P.H. Nargeolet will talk about his experiences during the 2007 Carpathia expedition and share images from it. This is the first public presentation of this material. Roy Mengot will discuss (also for the first time to the public) a new scenario for the breakup of Titanic. Our Saturday night banquet speaker Alan Ruffman will reveal the latest developments on identifying the "unknown child."

Plus, we'll have an all-day bus tour of New York City, visiting many of the city's Titanic sites. A few of the highlights:

* Hudson County Courthouse, Jersey City, N.J., which contains murals by artist Francis Davis Millet.
* Piers 59 and 54, Hudson River, Manhattan.
* Nos. 1 and 9 Broadway, the former offices of the White Star Line.
* St. Vincent's Hospital, which houses a memorial plaque to ship's surgeon Dr. William Francis Norman O'Loughlin.
* Titanic Memorial Lighthouse, South Street Seaport Museum.
* Wood-Lawn Cemetery, the Bronx, where a number of Titanic passengers are buried, including Ida and Isidor Straus.
Several maritime memorabilia dealers have confirmed with more to come.

Hope you can join us whether you are a TIS member or not!

The vendors' room will be open to the public on Friday the 16th from 2-9 p.m at the Crowne Plaza. If you can't attend the convention but want to shop with some of the coast's premiere nautical memorabilia dealers, there is just a five dollar entry charge to shop till you drop.
