16 December 1958: The film "A Night to Remember" has its U. S. premier, at the Criterion Theatre on Broadway in New York. New York Times reviewer Bosley Crowther writes that "this remarkable picture is a brilliant and moving account of the behavior of the people on the Titanic that night that should never be forgotten". (Sources: MacQuitty's Titanic Memories; The New York Times, 17 December 1958.)

I've been working on a similar idea on my website for some months now. I haven't focussed on people's births and deaths unless there was something noteworthy about them, and I've combined dates (eg. the Olympic/Hawke collision also describes events from the following weeks). So far I've compiled something for over 140 dates from May to December and I'm now working on January.
