Titanic game

Hi all! I have a question: As an early teenager (in the late 1970s), my parents got me some sort of Titanic board game. The game was complete with small lifeboats, dice and all. The game board pivoted allowing for the appearance of a sinking Titanic. The object of the game was something of the effect of rolling dice, landing on spots to pick up passengers and get off the boat before it sunk obviously =) Unfortantely, my parents basement was flooded years ago and the game thrown out, and I can't recall the exact name of it. Does anybody know what it's called and if it's possible to find it somewhere? Thanks a lot and good evening!

The game was "The Sinking of the Titanic". I bought it in the late 70s too, and still have my copy.

The game is pretty weird. After getting off the ship by lifeboat, as Michael mentions, you have to 'sail' to a tropical island in the second part of the game.

Sail off to a tropical island in a lifeboat from the Grand Banks of Newfoundland? Now that I'd like to see!

Though I wouldn't be surprised if some of the real survivors wished they HAD been in the tropics that night. I heard a wild rumor that it was a tad nippy in those boats.

Hi, Michael, group...

Actually, I read in a Newfoundland newspaper last year that some bright fellow was trying to sail across the Atlantic in a rowboat. The "locals" were hysterical, because he barely made it out of the harbour before turning back.

All the best -- Susan

(Who, BTW, won a neat board game called "the Merchant Marine Game" on eBay last year. :-))

Beleive it or not, crossing the Atlantic in a rowboat has been done. Not in an open craft vis a vis a typical lifeboat though. This craft was specially designed for the journey.

Wish I could remember the name of the guy who did it. It was an extrodinary feat.

Bill,

Actually, I don't remember a tropical island in the game we had, although I may have forgot. I haven't seen it in like 20 years. I do remember there was another ships lights in the background on the box I believe. Anyway, it was a real fun game, and I really wish I still had it, especially since my 5 year old loves to play board games now, and I'm sick of the same old ones! J

Regards,

Mike.

I just checked - the Titanic down by the head, water up to the bridge on the right, half full lifeboat in the forground, and another boat coming up from the left background.

Yes! I got that game about 1977 or so- it was by Ideal and I think the funnels are gray with red tops- in good condition it sells for about 125 dollars now- and went through the roof when Cameron's movie came out.
