Titanic Life Rings

Hello,

I've just read that Titanic's Life Rings were blank, I always thought that they had "R.M.S. Titanic" along the top and "Liverpool" along the bottom. Can anybody give me some more information on this Subject. Thanks.

Titanic's liferings were indeed blank, as it was with ships of that time, and it was only much later that liferings with the ship's name were installed on her sister, the Olympic.

True, but that of course didn't prevent the emergence of one of the great cliches of cinema - all those old films in which a young couple lean against a ship's rail in the moonlight to discuss all the wonderful things they will do with the rest of their lives, before the camera tracks to one side and reveals a life ring with a very familiar name!

She wouldn't have used RMS anyway. Like the lifeboats she would have used SS Titanic.

So if I understand it right, the Ttanic life rings were white. Just white, without any writing on it? Had they also the ropes attached (at four points) around?
