I believe my Wife's great grandfather led the "gang" that forged the "gearing" (ring, shackle and pin ) for the Titanic. His name was Jim or Joe Davenport. Can you shed any light on this please?

This is all very interesting to me.
Can I ask a question - do you know if many women would have been involved with the titanic's anchor?

Not all newspaper reports say this. And if you think about it all the other evidence given re its date of moving make the Monday incorrect. The town Market in those days was on fridays, Saturdays and Mondays. To ensure uninterupted procession of the Anchor they chose Sunday. The market stalls which normally stayed up over the weekend were removed and access through the town centre was freed up. Also fact that hundreds of the publc lined the route indicate it was Sunday 30th May.
