Tried to help

I read somewhere that the "Storstad" tried to keep their bow in the gaping hole of the "Empress" after the collision, but the momentum of the "Empress" made the ships drift apart. Is there any truth in this?

Hi Guys,

Not according to what is written in: Fourteen Minutes, page 65.
"Kendall's main concern, now that a collision was unavoidavble, was to make sure that the strangerkept her bows firmly wedged into the hole that she was inevitably going to make. ......... Kendall ... Keep going ahead on your engines ....... Instead, a few seconds after the collision, the other ship started to back away .... swinging out and astern, her lights growing dim ....... And then she was gone."

Hope that helps,
Lester
