UK folk watching BBC TV breakfast news today were given a treat - some unseen-footage of the Queen Mary's launch in 1934 and her maiden voyage in 1936. The launch ceremony was attended by HRH Queen Mary when the ship was launched on the Clyde.

We saw her leaving Southampton on her maiden voyage in 1936 and her grand entrance into New York having crossed the atlantic in record time. Sadly, the film - taken by an amateur - was only 2 minutes or so long. Well worth seeing.

There was a report at the end of tonight's Six O'Clock News presented by John Morrison, the man with the Western Isles accent so think you could cut it in half! There was an interesting scene of him at the slipway in Clydebank. Presumably that isn't something the developers are going to build over!

Hi guys,

You have made me a very happy bunny, as I searched the BBC's website and couldn't find it earlier. I stumbled along your messages, and am now up 2 date. Happy sailing!
