Deal Buys Parts for 5th U.S. Coast Guard NSC

The Coast Guard announced Jan. 19 that it had exercised an $89 million contract option with Northrop Grumman to begin buying major parts and materials for the construction of its fifth national security cutter.

The service plans to build eight NSCs, which will replace the aged high endurance cutters.

SAN DIEGO – A crewmember of a Coast Guard vessel that collided with a pleasure boat killing an 8-year-old San Diego boy will have a mark on her record but will not serve time in the brig.

The Coast Guard decided Wednesday to reprimand Boatswain’s Mate 3rd Class Brittany Rasmussen after she pleaded guilty to a dereliction of duty charge during a military court-martial, according to The Union-Tribune of San Diego.

Hamilton & Chase retire from the fleet

Two stalwarts of the Coast Guard’s fleet of cutters, Hamilton and Chase, were decommissioned earlier this week after leaving an indelible mark in our service’s history. The two 378-foot high endurance cutters, with close to 90 years of experience collectively, were decommissioned to make way for the new fleet of 21st century national security cutters.
