Almost five years after the attack submarine Greeneville surfaced into the path of a Japanese fisheries training vessel off Oahu, sinking it and killing nine crew members, the National Transportation Safety Board published the results of its investigation of the accident Wednesday.
The mishap occurred on Feb. 9, 2001, about nine miles south of Diamond Head, during a day-long training cruise held solely to take 16 “distinguished visitors” out to sea on a submarine from Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
