Violet Jessop's Book

Logan. You can always borrow it from the library first. I completely enjoyed her story. It tells about her life, struggles, and more than just the accounts of the 3 ships, which was fulfilling for me. Colleen

I'd save my money. As Colleen says, it's enjoyable but as a source it's about worthless. For reasons of her own she almost always gives the people involved false names. Borrow it from a library and keep a little salt handy as you read it.

I'd go along with Dave here. The book - "Titanic Survivor" - is an enjoyable read but not much (as any) help as a source. She DOES, however, have in her memoirs one of the ONLY mentions of the ships cat!

Best regards,
Cook

Cook, Only you could be infatuated with the ships cat! I was very disappointed with the book, the handling of the Titanic story and her experiences were particularly poor.

Not only Pat Cook! I line up with the cat lovers and I love the tale of the cat that had the sense to leave the ship at Southampton. Was this Jessop's cat, or another feline stowaway? Here's a field for deep and meaningful research. (And more fun than endless argument over Captain Lord)

That is where I got the information from about Jenny the cat was from Violets' book. I bought it because Graham is a great writer and Violets story was to me, one that should be told.

If you are interested in survivors and about their lives, pre, mid, and post-Titanic, then it is a definate read. If you are interested only on information about the ship, you will most likely not want to buy it for your own personal library.

I did what Colleen did, and I ended up buying it because I enjoyed the book so much. It gave me an insight to life in an era that we only see glimpes of.

Just my 2 cents,

Beverly

I liked it as well...kind of left me longing for more. I posted something else about it in "Your Burning Questions" under General Titanica. LoL Still new here and had I found this thread first, I would have posted it here! I did think it was well written though...hope you enjoy it

I too enjoyed this book. (just got it recently

) I found her life to be quite interesting and amazed at her strong will to survive in all aspects.

For anyone interested in this title, one would do well to run over to the nearest Barnes & Noble as it's starting to show up in the bargain section. This probably means it's about to go out of print if it hasn't already.

While Miss Jessop may well be no candidate for a Pulitzer, her memoirs provide and interesting look at a period in time from a person who lived it. It's well worth the money.

Cordially,
Michael H. Standart

Hi Michael -- I ran into them there (Barnes and Noble) yesterday in the bargain section, and the price was so good that I decided it was worth a couple bucks. I'm hoping to get a behind the scenes look at ocean travel of the era from it at least, and I like Maxtone-Graham.
