WEbRE IN FOR A TREAT TITANIC

Yea...ABC World News Tonight with Peter Jennings is advertising, this week (No set date, I suppose that's how they get you to tune in ;-)..

"The chilling and haunting memories of a TITANIC survivor"

I can only assume this is some new information that has been disclosed of recent?

You can assure where I will be from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m this Mon. - Fri. However I am a faithful viewer of ABC NEWS anyhow.

Yes indeed...TITANIC interest is only 91 afterall...and in great health.

The last few moments were worth waiting for- the surprise was the auction of Lightoller memorabilia- a 17-page typed single spaced memoir, photos and mementos which went for 80,000 at Sothby's in London. The interesting sentence was that he revealed understanding the order "Women and Children First" to be "Women and Children ONLY"-the voice recording of him speaking was wonderful to hear -very clear. Ballard was, of course, interviewed here in Mystic but had nothing significant to add which is not already known.

Shelley, I wonder who the owner was selling this memoir? Was it not known before this that he said "women and children only"? I have heard Lightollers account on the two tape series by Geoffrey Giuliano. This Sothesbys auction for his memoirs must not have been widely advertised.

Rob...you mentioned the World News Tonight...just to save time of trying to locate the program, could you please list the network and times (like for eastern or western standard time)? Thank you.

ABC Network, Peter Jennings- West Coast- you can still get it I think. No, the owner of this remarkable collection was not mentioned as is frequently the case.

I wasn't sure of the time so I have kept the ABC network on during the news hours and I found it!!! Yippee-Skippy...WorldNews just started so I am waiting patiently for the Titanic segment to begin. Just to pass time, does anyone keep taped records of all things run on news programs and documentary programs about the ship?

Boy you folks in the Midwest and East have the advantage...it is'nt fair...;-)

With most of the news broadcasts...they seem to save the most heartwarming segments for last...as in the broadcast of WNT at 6:00 p.m. *PACIFIC TIME*

Peter Jennings opens with..."The story of the Titanic told again".

Ned Potter who reported the segment opens with..."A night to remember again and again".
Potter continued with this *newly* revealed diary of Lights. From my vantage point (Total focus of the TV screen) I saw a handsomly signed photo of Lights (Aprox. 8 x 10), a menu, and the aforementioned typed diary.

As Shelly mentioned, and so chilling to my spine, a close in scrutiny of the diary revealed what Lights interpreted to be *Women and Children Only!*

In closing Ned Potter summed up our beloved TITANIC so fittingly...

"1500 people died that night...the story never does..."

BTW Shelly...

It's the first time that I have seen Dr. Ballard without his ballcap in a long time...

...center stage.

Who is the fortunate *next* temporary caretaker of Lights invaluable holdings? I would luv to see the diary in full. Yes, I am an optimist ;-)
