Florence Josephine Edge Lowe (b. 20 November 1914)

Do you also know the birthdate of his wife? I think "Edge" is a funny and strange name for a child. I looked it up in a dictionary and found out what it means. a bit strange.

I've got quite a lot of background on Ellen, including her date of birth and a family tree. Am not keen on dribbling data out, however (although this bit isn't particularly obscure).

It was a common practice of the time to incorporate surnames, or even full names, into the Christian and/or middle names of children, leading to some unusual names. You might find, for example, Horatio Nelson Smith...or Henry TINGLE Wilde, Joseph GROVES Boxhall, William MCMASTER Murdoch etc.

There was also a steward on the Titanic: Frederick William Edge, and many Edges in the Southampton area.

Don't worry, I don't think 'Edge' is a funny name at all

I think Crissy was unfamiliar with it as a middle or forename, hence her comments. It's quite common as a surname, and was adapted into use as a middle name by the Lowe family.
