On the 2nd Class Stateroom Deck Plans there is a rectangular long object on the aft wall coded "FL". This is from the Nat. Geographic deck plans. What can it mean?
If memory serves, it means "Foldaway Lounge" which was a type of foldaway bed that could double as a sofa when not being used for a good night's sleep. A number of cabins even in 1st class had them.
Looking at Bruce Beveridge's plans the abbreviation "FL" stands for "Folding Lavatory" but is more fully described in: Titanic The Ship Magnificent, vol 2, chapter 3, as a "Fold-up Washbasin cabinet".
Thanks! I knew from 3D reconstructions that they were basically sinks with mirrors, but I didn't catch the "folding" thing. I also had no clue as to what FL, the actual letters, mean.
