What I Want For My Birthday

Today I turn 39. (Yes, really) And the same
question has been posed to me as has been posed
to me for many years: 'What do you want for your
birthday?'
It seems that in past years, the older I get,
it has become a more and more difficult question
to answer. I realize that I am approaching the
I-don't-know-what-to-get-so-give-him-a-tie-or-
socks years faster than I would like to admit.
So when the question arose again last night
by one of my 17-year-old employees, I really
put some thought to it. You see, it never really
mattered for the last few years that I got anything at all. But this year....I would love
to have....
Those 5000+ people back who perished because
a small group thousands of miles away haven't
taken the time to really try to understand us...
The intervention of a higher power into the
brains of those few who think spreading a rogue
disease through the mail system is funny or
humane.....The safety of all my family and
friends when they climb on an airplane, and the
fear from flying(my 8 year old niece has recently
declared that she is never, ever getting on an
airplane. I was her age when I took my first
flight, and loved every minute of it.)
Any one of these things would be a tall order
to fill, but I can only wish.....

Sorry for the off-topic reflection; but this
is what I felt was most important on the day I turn the last year in my 30's

Warm Regards to All,

Brian

Happy Birthday, Brian.

It would be great if the things you've asked for your birthday could come true. Still it is a gauge of your humanity that you have wished for them.

God bless,

Randy

Well Brian, I'm officially in love with you! You're a grown up AND you have a heart! My birthday is next month and all I wanted was Titanic books. I feel very small today. Your wish is so much better; I hope you don't mind if I borrow it for my "wish list".
Happy Birthday. I hope your day is full of kindness, happiness, love, and tolerance.

All the best for a good birthday and a brighter year. Hold tighter to what's good - now more than ever, that's important.

All blessings and good health to mark your new year. Happy Birthday, Brian. Though now we see through a glass darkly, yet shall we see face to face. And now abides faith, hope and love, but the greatest of these is love.

All the best,
Kyrila

Brian:
Wait until you get as old as some nameless people aboard whose birthday wish each year is to be 39 again.
Happy Birthday, kid.
Regards,
Mike

Mike,

Yes, talking of being 39 again, and again, and again.....brings back wonderful memories of Jack Benny, who remains my inspiration when anyone asks my age!!

Happy birthday, Brian!

best wishes,

bob

Thanks everyone, for the warm notes. I really
wasn't "fishing", just voicing a wish for a
return to brighter times. No depression here;
just reflection.
Incidentally, trick-or-treating went very
well with the nephews and nieces: a four year
old fairy(not many of those around), a three
year old "Buzz Lightyear", and a 1 year old
elephant....the streets in my brother's
neighborhood were teeming with children and
laughter...a great night. Too much cake and
ice cream....but a great night.

Peace and Joy To All, and thanks for the
messages...

Best Regards,

Brian

As Ringo Starr put it, when asked how he felt about turning 60, "If I don't look in the mirror, I'm still 27."
It's been my motto ever since.

All the best,
Kyrila
