What would you like to see

There's a thread about what we would like to see in the Titanic movies, so why not one about what we would like to see in reality?

I'd start it off with saying I would like to see the stern section explored (much) further. I see documentary after documentary that mainly focuses on the bow section or even the debris field, but the stern seems to get the raw end of the deal a lot of times. Granted, it doesn't have a lot of the classic features that the bow has to offer and therefore wouldn't be as appealing to the eyes of the majority of the "mainstream" audience, but I would think there is still a ton to be learned from the stern section.

And just as a side note, wouldn't it be nice to have a good, lit up view of the stern that we've gotten repeatedly for the bow? They did light up the stern once, revealing the engines, but that was it. I'd personally like to see more of what remains of the poop deck, well deck, 2nd Class entrance area and some interiors. Dangerous? Yes, very. But we're talking about 2-300ft/length of ship that's barely been touched on in comparison to the bow. Surely those little ROV's could fumble around some more with the main submersible far enough away from any immediate danger. They did it in LMOT and GOTA.

Anyway, sorry to be so long winded, just thinking out loud.

>>what we would like to see in reality?<<

Reality itself would be a damned good start. Take a look at what's out there to see what I mean. Even the very best of documentaries suffer from the need to put in some new angle that nobody ever thought of while a lot of them just repeat the same tired old legends of bad rivets, bad steel, locked gates and occasonally some sinister conspiracies.

The Great Blunders in History piece was a work that had me screaming at the telly after only five minutes. After six, I had to switch it off.

Yes, it was that bad!

What would i like to see! well alot more Titanic docomentries would be nice! correct me if i'm wrong, years ago i use to turn on the History channel and National Graphic channel and the discrovery channel and i use to find alot of Titanic docomentries but these days i can't find one.Any one else has notice this?

I guess that would depend on whether you want to see the same ones run over and over or something new! If you are like me you'd like to see something new, different. But we are getting to the point where they are beating a dead horse. Rehashing everything we've already learned.

AND, Arlene, they are starting to make up facts or twist facts to drum up viewers. They'll say that the Titanic was poorly-designed. Or they'll say that it was the most luxurious ship afloat (didn't the Olympic first set sail a couple of years earlier?).

They'll say anything to make it seem like there has been a new discovery. And it's getting soooo old.

Yes, it's too bad. New enthusiasts may not be able to appreciate Titanic the way we did esp when it was first found at the bottom of the Atlantic or even previous to that. Folks aren't going to know what is the truth. Oh, a new idea: "The Real, Honest Truth about Titanic," lol.

>>AND, Arlene, they are starting to make up facts or twist facts to drum up viewers.<<

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but thats been going on from the gitgo. The "Great Blunders In History" piece was notably bad in this respect, but it's hardly the only offender.

I think that the majority of TV docs in the last 5 years have been inventing new theories about why the ship sank (as if hitting an iceberg isn't enough). It broke in two because ships aren't meant to bend like that. Nothing really earth-shaking here.

It's sad because people get the idea that what they're presenting is fact rather than theory.

My feeling is that the Titanic has been pretty well mined. I like docs like Ghosts of the Abyss that told the story but brought something new and exciting to it in the way it was presented. It wasn't sensationalistic tabloid drivel.

I don't know that the subject has been pretty well mined, but a lot of what's out there tends to focus on the legend rather then the reality. What I would like to see is something that a reasonable person just might take for objectivity. Unfortunately, objectivity doesn't appear to sell well.

Arlene,I actually don't mind watching the same documenties about the Titanic.
I could watch Titanic documentires all day!
WW2 documenties are played over and over and over, how about the Titanic!
But i would love new docomentries, maybe 2012 it might happend.

>>But i would love new docomentries,maybe 2012 it might happend.<<

I think you can be certain of that much. The question is, how much of it will be fresh material reflecting the best and latest research, and how many of them will just repeat the same old mistakes?

Iv'e only got 3 years left to wait!YAY
It would be nice if it was new fresh material but i don't mind watching old one's since there's no new one's being made.
I actually got some taped on video and one of them actually shows to first class gang way doors being open. You can see the door handles that close and lock the first class gang way doors,it's amazing and it's sad cause they got sad song playing when showing the doors.I watch it a million times. I just can't help it,but it would be great to get new one's made though!

I wonder if those gangway doors were ever really opened. For all that we've heard that an attempt was made to use the location to load boats, the one such door actually seen and photographed from inside the wreck is not only closed, it has one of those Bostwick Gates drawn across it.

I hope i name the doors correctly, you know the first class doors that first class passenager's enter the ship, the main first class doors.
You know when rose enter's the ship for the first time, those doors but it was on a real Titanic docomentries.
I might go and check out the name of this docomentry and i'll report back to you, then we can work out if it's real, you know more than i do.
