Which Cabin Would You Choose

Sorry Thomas Andrews but you're going to have to find somewhere else to sleep, i'm taking you're cabin. Cabin A-36 for me thanks, has its own bathroom and toilet, handy to aft staircase for my wanderings, and not to far to stagger back to after a night of "whooping" it up in the smoke room.

"If one chose a boat deck, cabin wouldn't he be visible by everyone on deck at all times?"

I'm pretty sure the boat deck cabins worked just like the ones on A-Deck. They had translucent windows that you couldn't actually see through, but let some natural light in. While the wreck was being explored, the Keldysh crew actually found a large piece of one of the windows from A-Deck still intact and saw how intricately designed the windows were. They had the typical classy designs that you would find throughout the first class section of the ship etched onto them. Even still, I would probably prefer a cabin with an actual view that looked right out into the ocean.

But this actually made me think of a new question. If anyone has looked at the QE2's deckplans lately, they would see that there were cabins overlooking the promenade deck just like the A-Deck and Boat Deck cabins on Titanic. Would anyone happen to know if those cabins on the QE2 had the same type of translucent windows found on Titanic or if they just had shades or blinds blocking the view? Or were they one-way windows with a reflection on the outside like you would see in office buildings?

Cabin A-36 for me thanks

I was going to have that! Then I shall choose Cabin 33, section C again.
There's a nice, straightforward route out of there for any midnight rushings I might have to undertake.
I have four beds, and the mens room is just on the deck above - the open space above that and the forward well deck above that.
Everything I need...

Hi Adam,

Would anyone happen to know if those cabins on the QE2 had the same type of translucent windows found on Titanic or if they just had shades or blinds blocking the view? Or were they one-way windows with a reflection on the outside like you would see in office buildings?

If memory serves me correctly (it's been four years since I was aboard her), the windows are covered with curtains blocking the view from the outside. Perhaps Jim Kalafus can chime in on this one though.

I hope this helps.

Best regards,

Jason

You're welcome, Adam. I'm glad I could help.

Sounds like a normal oceanview room would be better, then.

Yes, I would recommend it. Although, those curtains probably can be moved across, but still I much prefer an outside cabin with a regular view of the ocean.

Hi I am new to the website and this topic seemed interesting. Unfortuneately I have not been able to find any interiors really. do any of you have pictures of any cabins and especially pictures of the aft grand staircase? my e mail is sebi817 at yahoo.com. thanks.

I think I would like a cabin on A or B deck near the 1st Class lounge and Reading room.
I could listen to conversation in the lounge and if I didn't understand what they were talking about I could catch up on my reading.
Imagine, no Stephen King or Tom Clancy.
