Why are they making a Titanic II?

Ahahahahahahaha! I knew it! That's the real reason Mr Palmer's making such a racket about Titanic again isn't it? He just wants to drum up attention towards himself for his electoral bid!

Who wants to bet that if Titanic 2 is made and sets sail. It would hit an iceberg (due to equipment failure or something) and sink?

After all, History does repeat itself

I’ve viewed a video of the overview of the ship and somehow they’ve managed to mess up what goes on what deck. I know that it’s a replica

Actually the Titanic being built in China is well underway and according to some of the tweets some well known Titanic persons, such as Bruce Beveridge, are involved.

As for the dignity of the victims, yes we should cherish and hold in honor those who were lost at sea, but consider: In a couple of decades, all that is left of Titanic on the ocean floor will be eroded by the new microorganisms slowly consuming it. Isn’t it a wonderful idea to replicate the ship as much as possible and allow tourists to come and see and feel what it was really like on that beautiful ship, what could possibly have gone through the minds of those who knew they had little time to live? I see it as an extraordinary opportunity to memorialize and use for good a tragedy that should not have taken place. Something that will preserve Titanic for generations to come. The idea of re-enactments of the sinking have been abandoned and now talk of including plaques for the names of all the victims is happening as well for a memorial. I think this is beautiful and I absolutely want to visit this resort/attraction because it would be a privilege and a great honor.

Glad to see more progress on the China project.

One interesting note that back when the Titanic Channels forums where up, Ken actually said he was very exited for the China project.

While the China one will not be sailing anywhere, and will have a theater. It will be the far more accurate version of the ship (crazy to say that!)

This is due to we will have full life size recreations of the Reciprocation engines, boiler room 6 and the most other major spaces on the ship, with out the ugly aesthetics of modern ships and having the dinning room being on c deck and a extra deck added. Bruce even mentioned that he hoped they could glue a bunch of fake rivets to the hull to give the feel of the ship.

They've been "pumping" this for ten years now.

If somebody pulls it off, I'll wish them the very best, BUT I won't believe it until I see it happen.

There's reason to believe that PRR 5550 will turn a wheel before Titanic II gets beyond a keel laying. Admittedly I'm biased towards the former but actually getting experts on board the project helps immensely.

I notice Palmer's ship will have 250 person lifeboats. The normal maximum is 150, so he'll need special dispensation from the flag state. I wonder where that will be. Mongolia?

I still think it’s a bad idea for this Palmer guy to recreate/modernize a doomed ocean liner.
I believe the phrase "history repeats itself" so that explains why I think it’s a bad idea. Also, I think they plan on having it set sail on 2022

I know the Chinese are essentially doing the same thing but I don’t think you are going to sail it anywhere.

At least the boneheads at Slate didn't use a picture of Olympic or a Cunarder.

In 2003 British audiences voted 'Titanic' to be the worst film ever made. I believe it was simply the way in which Cameron portrayed the British. Everything was made to please an American audience with bias against the British. i.e. Make the English characters evil or dumb and make the Americans and Irish heroic. e.g. Lightoller's plan was to lower the boats half full and then fill them up from the gangway doors. The film made him look like an idiot who did not know what he was doing and had to be instructed by Thomas Andews. They gave Thomas Andrew an Irish accent when he was British with an Ulster accent. Captain Smith was very active throughout the entire evacuation, but Cameron made him do nothing and go into shock during the evacuation. Titanic was built in Ulster in a district that was Loyalist, Protestant, and proud to be British and aggressively against the Irish, and that same year there was a vote for Irish home rule which largely divided the country as it determined who were loyal Ulstermen of the King and Empire and who were Irish and loyal to the Pope. In Cameron's film he made the character Tommy say that the Titanic was an Irish ship built by strong Irish hands. To anyone outside the UK it might seem a small matter, but it's like labelling a country that is trying to recover from a civil war and giving credit for a world renowned accomplishment to the opposite side. Like saying The Empire State Building was built by the Germans and it is their achievement. I have to admit the constant Irish music throughout the film was blatant bias towards the southern Irish. Reminds me of the 1953 film when they gave the lookout man an Irish accent and had the ship's band play Oh Danny Boy. The characters in Hollywood films can be so stereotype that is makes the story unbelievable or ridiculously bias. Too much stereotype.

.
I am a great fan of A Night To Remember for its few inaccuracies .
But I suppose an American audience could say the same for or its stereotype way it portrayed the Ugly Americans such as in the 'Hey ! Lieutenant ! 'scene and worst of all for Tucker Maguire's portrayal of Mrs. J.J. Brown. And the movie certainly makes Lightoller the hero. The film was made to please the British audience.

As for the worst portrayals , the 1943 Nazi 'Titanic' certainly gets the Academy Award .- or Booby Prize - for that . Of course you have to realize it was a propaganda movie. it was made to please the German audience but I hear it ran into trouble on that account.
