I have just found an amazing posting by Shelley Dziedzic on May22 2001 telling us about 5 letters by EJSmith and his wife on

These letters give so many insights...for instance CPtn Smith says he could not invite a friend who was on board ship to dinner at his table because she was travelling 2nd Class !!
That really shows the class system then.
