(11:30 p.m. EDT) -- Royal Caribbean raised some eyebrows when it hired an up-and-coming chef to run the chicest restaurant aboard Oasis of the Seas -- 150 Central Park. A year later, the line stands by its strategy, maintaining that a big celebrity simply sweeps in, creates a menu and leaves whereas its passengers want to see the chef out in the dining room, greeting them and putting a face on the food.

(6:22 p.m. EDT) -- It's hard to believe that nearly a year has passed since Oasis of the Seas mania took over the seawaves. The 225,282-ton, 5,400-passenger cruise ship debuted after months -- actually, years! -- of hype, brimming with first-in-cruise features like the lush, tree-filled Central Park neighborhood; an outdoor boardwalk with an aquatic amphitheater and real, wooden carousel; numerous new restaurants; and even its own Broadway show, "Hairspray."

(1:50 p.m. EDT) -- Cruise Critic was at the STX Turku Shipyard in Turku, Finland, today for a hard-hat tour of Royal Caribbean's under-construction Allure of the Seas. The 225,282-ton, 5,400-passenger vessel is the second in the Oasis class -- the largest cruise ships ever built -- and is set to debut in December.
Did we convince the cruise line execs on hand to eke out a few new tidbits? You bet:

Showcasing onboard experiences all her own, Royal Caribbean International’s Allure of the Seas, the world’s next largest and most innovative cruise ship debuting in December 2010, will introduce new culinary concepts and tempting twists to signature Oasis-class restaurants. A Brazilian steakhouse will be a destination restaurant that comes to life for dinner service in the Solarium, featuring authentic Brazilian-style meats and seafood dishes, from Picanha cut sirloin steak to Atlantic salmon marinated with sea salt and garlic, served table-side and sliced straight off the skewer.

It's only a few millimeters but for Captain Hermin Zini, that's enough.
"Allure of the Seas is officially 5mm longer than the 360m Oasis of the Seas. It's just 5mm, but that's enough for me"

Sydney, Oct 2 (ANI): Royal Caribbean's Allure of the Seas, has become the world's biggest cruise ship after it measured 5 millimetres more than its sister ship, Oasis
of the Seas.
They've had butterflies before. And quite a few birds. But the latest denizen of the wild world to stow away on Royal Caribbean's plant-infused Oasis of the Seas was a bit more unusual: An endangered Florida owl.
The Miami Herald today reports Florida Fish and Wildlife officers were called to the famed cruise ship -- the world's largest -- over the weekend while it was docked in Fort Lauderdale to remove a rare Florida burrowing owl from the vessel's artificial turf golf course, where it was trying to set up home.
Known for its open-air, tree- and plant-filled "Central Park" -- a cruise ship first -- the ten-month-old, 5,400-passenger vessel apparently looked appealing to the critter.

(3:20 p.m. EDT) With onboard rock-climbing, surfing and ice-skating among its offerings, Royal Caribbean prides itself on its active vibe. But a recent announcement touting the line's newest calorie-burning activity -- a 5K race in St. Maarten, sold as a shore excursion on Allure of the Seas' December 12 sailing -- gave us pause. Wondering whether cruisers would pay $50 to work up a sweat on their vacation, we asked Cruise Critic's Facebook fans what they thought of Royal Caribbean's latest announcement.

Something unique is brewing onboard Royal Caribbean International’s new Allure of the Seas, the world’s largest and most innovative cruise ship — the first Starbucks at sea.
Industry giant Royal Caribbean today took possession of Allure of the Seas, a sister to its much-ballyhooed, 11-month-old Oasis of the Seas, from the STX Europe shipyard in Turku, Finland.
Like its sister, the 225,282-ton vessel is nearly 50% larger than any other cruise ship afloat and has room for nearly 6,300 passengers -- an industry record.

It required a steady hand... and nerves of steel.
Fortunately for the captain, the world's newest superliner squeezed under this Danish bridge with ease, even though there was just an inch-and-a-half margin of error.
The Allure of the Seas - which cost a staggering £1billion ($1.5bn) - measures around four football fields and accommodates 8,300 people including crew members.
