According to my family history, my grandmother's uncle ran away from home at a young age, made his way to England, managed to get aboard the Titanic as crew, and died in the sinking. He would have been in his teens or perhaps early twenties.

His surname was Gommelt, alt. sp. Gomelt and his nationality would most likely have been either Polish or German.

I can't find any record of this person. Of course there is a possibility that he used another name & so I wonder if there are any young crew members whose biographies and antecedents are mysterious, and who could possibly have been this person. The only other info I have is that his father was a jeweller in Poland and the family may have been Jewish.

Many thanks
