Leila Salloum Elias is the granddaughter of Syrian immigrants to Canada. She was born in Toronto, Canada and graduated with a Master’s Degree in Middle East and Islamic Studies from the University of Toronto. She teaches modern Arabic language at Penn State University and Middle Eastern history at Northampton Community College in Pennsylvania. She is also co-author of three books dealing with medieval Arab cuisine.
