William Dyer was my great great uncle - my Mother's Mother's Uncle. He was known in the family as Uncle Will. My Grandmother was the same age as his children (cousins). She died in February 2004, and these are her memories.
William Dyer died aged 31 and left behind his wife Francis. He had twins - Lily and Rose born around 1910 and another daughter, Winifred born about 1908 (the same year as my Grandmother). Uncle Will told his wife not to worry about him "on this trip" as this ship couldn't sink, so he'd be home soon. My Grandmother remembered that his children grew up with good toys and good clothes that other children didn't have, like a doll's pram. My Grandmother said that Will's family were financially taken care of by a "fund" - but we don't know what this was.
