Succumbs at Streator Home of Daughter; Final Rites at Highland Park
Mrs. Hilda Marie Larson, a survivor of the Titanic sea disaster, died at 12:30 a.m., today, in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Anthony Centko, 206 W. Livingston Rd., following an extended illness. She had been in failing health for several months.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2 P.M. from the First United Evangelical Church in Highland Park with burial occurring in Memorial Park Cemetery at Skokie. The body will be taken to Seguin funeral home at Highland Park, where visitation will be Sunday evening.
Mrs. Larson was born Dec. 7, 1889, in Sweden, and was united in marriage to John Larson, Dec. 7, 1915, in Waukegan. Her husband passed away 14 years ago.
Mrs. Larson was aboard the Titanic when it sank in the North Atlantic after striking an iceberg in 1912, carrying nearly 1,300 persons to their deaths. She was one of few to survive the disaster.
She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Anthony (Ellen) Centko, and two grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Mrs. Larson made her home at Highland Park for 50 years, coming here January 28 of this year to reside with her daughter.
She was a member of the First United Evangelical Church of Highland Park, Ladies of the Vikings and Scandinavian Brotherhood. She was the last of her family.
