George Achilles Harder of 531 East Seventy-second Street, director and former president of the Central Foundry Company of Newark, died Tuesday in a Utica, N.Y., hospital. His age was 72.

A graduate of Pratt Institute, Mr. Harder started his business career in 1909 with the Essex Foundry, which later became part of Central Foundry. He was chairman of Central until 1938.

He leaves his wife, Elizabeth: two sons, George, Jr., and Thomas D. R.: two daughters, Mrs. Barclay Douglas of Newport, R.I., and Mrs. Clendenin J. Ryan of this city; a sister and nine grandchildren.
