On February 13, 1895, Miss McMillan was married in St. Louis to Judge George A. Madill, distinguished early jurist who was the son of Dr. Alexander Madill and the former Rose Edgar. By this marriage she had two children, Georgette A. Madill, now the wife of Anthony Bagshaw Mattei of London, England, and Charles Madill, now deceased. Judge Madill was born in Wysox, Pennsylvania, June 29, 1838; he died in St. Louis, December 11, 1901. On January 3, 1904, Mrs. Madill married the St. Louis lawyer, Edward S. Robert. Mr. Robert was born in Albemarle County, Virginia, October 31, 1858; he was the son of the Reverend P.G. Robert and the former Elizabeth Scott. A former associate and close friend of Judge Madill, Mr. Robert died in St. Louis, December 13, 1911.
Always interested in charitable affairs, Mrs. Robert was particularly interested in children and young people. She was one of the organizers of the YWCA in 1892, and she established the Underage Free Kindergarten for the children of working mothers in St. Louis. Later she persuaded Miss Jennie Wahlert to come to Clarksville, Missouri, where Mrs. Robert made her home for many years, to establish a school for colored children.
In 1912, Mrs. Robert and her sixteen-year-old daughter, Georgette A. Madill, were on the Titanic when it struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic, resulting in one of the worst naval disasters in history. Mrs. Robert and her daughter were seven hours on a life raft before they were rescued.
Mrs. Robert was taken ill at ""Oakland,"" her estate in Clarksville, and died at Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, January 15, 1956. Funeral services were private. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Anthony Bagshaw Mattei.
