Appledore

Muffled peals were rung on the bells of the Church on Sunday, and a memorial service having reference to the “Titanic” disaster was conducted by the Vicar (Rev. G. Scholey). The opening hymn was “Nearer My God, To Thee,” and Mr. Hannam sang as a solo “Crossing The Bar.” At the close the organist (Mr. Allen) played the Dead March. At the Wesleyan Church the Rev. J. A. Aldington made touching reference to the disaster, and the Dead March was played by Miss Lemon. At the Congregational Church the Rev. W. Burton preached an eloquent sermon, the Dead March being played by Mr. A. Green. At the Baptist Church the hymns included “Nearer, my God, to Thee.”
