A large number of public institutions received bequests by wills filedfor probate yesterday in the Surrogates' Court. [Description of thewill of Joseph Hirsch omitted.]

William Augustus Spencer, who went down with the Titanic on April 15,left to the Trustees of the New York Public Library $1,000 and aninterest in one-half the residue, after other bequests of more than$50,000.
