Wife of Editor of Jerseyman Dies in Memorial Hospital

Mrs. Susan Ryerson Patterson, daughter of Mrs. Arthur Ryerson of Chicago, and wife of George W. Patterson, Jr., editor of THE JERSEYMAN, died in Memorial Hospital last night at 9:30 o'clock. Heart failure was the direct cause of death.

Mrs. Patterson had recently undergone a successful operation for appendicitis when heart complications set in.

During the World War, Mrs. Patterson was at the front in a French hospital and was awarded a Croix De Guerre by Marshal Petain, also a Medaille de la Reconnaissance. Beside a nurse, Mrs. Patterson was a bacteriologist in the army hospital.

Soon after coming here, Mrs. Patterson took an active interest in civic affairs and was secretary of the Morristown Orchestral Society, and chairman of the Housing Committee of the Civic Society. She was also identified with many social organizations.

Her sudden death last night has been a shock to her many friends in this city and elsewhere.

Burial will be at Cooperstown, New York, and will be private.
