Charles was born on the 18 March 1867 in the village of Breage, a few miles west of Helston in south-west Cornwall. He was baptised at the parish church on 18 August 1867 and was the son of Anthony and Jane Anne Pascoe. (The 1881 UK census shows his birthplace to be Perren which is a known shortening of Perranuthnoe, a small village, and separate parish, a little to the west of Breage.)
Charles was the third of five children, his siblings being Mary Jane (b.1862), Francis (b. 1866), James (b.1869) and Thomas (b.1871).
His parents, Anthony and Jane were both of Sithney, a large parish just to the west of Helston and it is likely that they were married at the parish church there c1856. The parish includes the harbour town of Porthleven and as Anthony was a mariner it is likely he was a native of that town.
Their first two children were born in the parish of Sithney, Charles and James in the neighbouring parish of Breage and the youngest child at Sennen, the most westerly village on the English mainland and only a few miles east of Lands End.
The 1871 UK census confirms the family were at living Sennen and that Anthony was employed by the Royal Navy as a boatman.
The 1881 UK census reveals that Charles mother had died sometime following the 1871 census and that his father was now described as a Navy pensioner. Charles, his father and two younger brothers, James and Thomas were together at Great Green, Talland, a small village near West Looe on the south Cornwall coast.
The 1891 UK census has Anthony Pascoe remarried to a woman by the name of Betsy, they were both living at Farley Cottages, Liskeard, Cornwall, both in their late 50s with no other family members present with them.
As to the whereabouts of Charles this is a mystery, there is however a Charles Pascoe (aged 30) on the 1901 UK census living at East Stonehouse, Plymouth, Devon and working at the RN dockyard at Devonport as a boilermaker, this may, or may not be him as the birthplace quoted in the census is merely shown as Cornwall. Otherwise there are no other suitable persons listed of the right name, age and birthplace.
He reappears on 6 April 1912 when he signs on Titanic as an AB on a monthly wage of £5. He gave his address as 68 High Street in Southampton and that his previous ship had been Olympic.
He survived the sinking of Titanic in lifeboat 8 and was subsequently picked up by Carpathia, arriving in New York on 18 April 1912.
As for his later life no detail has yet become available.
