Richard Royston Proudfoot, signed on as a trimmer for the Titanic engine department in April 1912. His birth was registered at Plymouth, Devon in the September Quarter of 1890.
He was the son of Royston Jesse Proudfoot and Jane Gendle (nee Williams) who had married at Plymouth in 1889 (marriage registered Dec 1890 Quarter).
At the time of the 1891 census Richard, aged 8 months and his mother were staying with her parents (Richard & Elizabeth Williams) at 13 Seaton Place in Devonport.
There is no trace of Richard or his mother on the England & Wales 1901 census so his whereabouts are not established until 1912 when at sign-on for Titanic he gave his address in Southampton as 2 Pear Tree Green.
As a trimmer he was entitled to the monthly wage of £5 10 shillings and he showed at sign-on that his previous ship had been the 'Gaida'.
Richard was lost in the sinking aged 22 and his body was not amongst those subsequently recovered from the sea.
Richard was unmarried.
