Vice President of Liberty National Bank Marries Daughter of W. C. Durant in Newark
Robert W. Daniel of 19 West Sixty-ninth Street, Vice President of the Liberty National Bank of this city, and Mrs. Marjorie Durant Campbell of 635 Park Avenue, daughter of W. C. Durant, the automobile manufacturer, were married yesterday in the Halsey Street Methodist Episcopal Church in Newark, N. J. The Rev. James C. Howard, Chaplain of the Newark Fire Department, performed the ceremony, and the brides father gave her in marriage.
They will spend their honeymoon in Atlantic City.
Mr. Daniel formerly was married to the widow of Lucien P. Smith, who was lost in the Titanic disaster, and they were recently divorced. She was Miss Mary Eloise Hughes of Washington, D. C., and was returning on the Titanic with her husband. When the ship was sinking Mr. Smith kissed his bride in farewell and placed her in the same lifeboat in which John Jacob Astor placed his young wife, Madeline Force Astor.
Mr. Daniel and Mrs. Smith were married in August, 1914, but the fact did not become known until several months later. The fact that they had been divorced was not generally known and the family would not discuss it last night in connection with the report of the wedding yesterday.
