A Memorial Service was held on Wednesday, at St Jude's Church, Whitechapel, for the Vicar (the Rev E. C. Carter) and Mrs Carter, who are among the lost passengers on the Titanic. The service was conducted by the Rev. Gilbert Denniston, who came under Mr Carter’s influence as a boy. There was a large congregation, including many East London clergy and several members of the H Division of the Metropolitan Police. The Bishop of Stepney, who preached at St Jude's on Sunday, paid a high tribute to the personality and the work of Mr & Mrs Carter. He said he was quite sure Mrs Carter would not leave her husband, although no doubt she had the opportunity of escape and he could imagine them both offering consolation to the poor passengers between the time when the liner struck the iceberg and her final plunge. - 'The Times'
