Paul-Henri Nargeolet
Paul-Henri Nargeolet was born in Chamonix in 1946. After a 22-year career in the French Navy, he rose to the rank of frigate captain. He joined the French Research Institute for the Exploitation of the Sea (Ifremer) as head of “deep sea” submersibles in 1986. The following year, he led the first recovery expedition carried out on the Titanic. He lived in the United States and was director of the underwater research program for the company RMS Titanic Inc., which owns the rights to the wreck. He was tragically lost at sea on June 18, 2023, one of the five victims who died onboard the Titan submersible during a tourist dive to the Titanic.
