Description
The last, heroic performance of the TITANIC orchestra has passed to history and entered into legend. Little or nothing is known, however, of the music that was played and listened to on board the ocean liner during the inaugural cruise, before the tragic collision with the iceberg.
Yet, with its over 1300 passengers coming from all over the parts of the world, with its three classes socially so well differentiated, the TITANIC represents a formidable champion of the musical tastes, habits and customs in force on both the shores of the Atlantic Ocean at the dawn of the twentieth century, indeed when the passing of the baton from music was about to take place classical, cultured and artistic of Italian-French-German origin light, popular and consumer music of Anglo-American production.
Musical entertainment on board is perhaps the only one aspect of the TITANIC story that has never been seen before fully addressed.
A TITANIC expert and historian of music have joined forces to explore together, from different but complementary angles, the convivial microcosm and music of the “ship of dreams”.
