Titanic Myths, Titanic Truths

This book breaks through 100 years of myths surrounding the sinking of RMS Titanic to reveal that the ship was deliberately turned toward the iceberg, the damage was not necessarily fatal, and human error in a boiler room ultimately sank the ship.

These are the startling conclusions of Captain David G. Brown, a licensed master mariner. Using a school bus analogy, he explains why historians have been blinded to the true nature of the accident and its consequences.

Over the years I've become noted for not adhering to the conventional wisdom. Recently, I realized that it was difficult to connect my ideas together because they are spread over this forum and others. So, I created a modest new book, "Titanic Myths, Titanic Truths." It is available through Amazon as a print-on-demand softback. The price is deliberatly modest to ease wallet pain. Those who have been following my posts will find little new here. The book just puts everything between two covers. And, those who support the conventional wisdom are warned they probably shouldn't bother with this new book to avoid appoplectic fits.

Readers of "Titanic Myths, Titanic Truths" will discover that I appear to be arguing with myself because much of what I say now differs from my earlier book, "The Last Log Of The Titanic." This is true. I am arguing with myself. Never fear, however, I won the argument.

Thanks in advance to anyone who buys the book. Fair warning, though, I don't plan to defend or discuss it beyond this short announcement. I would rather spend my time on the forum debating specific issues.

Do you have the url in right? I just clicked on it, and it said it's not a functioning page on their site.

Also, how much is it? I wouldn't mind a copy, since I also don't have Last Log of the Titanic.

I only found a used copy on the UK Amazon site but was luckier at the US one. The new copy including postage to the UK was a reasonable ยฃ13 and so I placed an order. Looks interesting.

Regarding the URL for my book -- I just visited the U.S. Amazon site and found this:

Amazon.com: Titanic Myths, Titanic Truths: How A Series of Errors Caused History's Most Famous Maritime Disaster (9781456461751): Capt David G Brown: Books

You can also find it by typing in the title under "books" and go from there.

My original intention was to drain the e-book swamp, but the alligators of format incompatability got me. I got so frustrated I almost threw my shoe through the monitor. Maybe I should try again. For the moment, though, it's only a trade paperback book. If somebody really can't live without an e-file, I have a PDF of the page layouts.

Yes, reading things on the computer is handy, however, it is always nice to have a physical piece of book matter in your hand to come back to again and again. ๐Ÿ™‚

Having bought and read this book, all I can say is that it is very imaginatively written.

Mr. Brown reshaped my thinking of Titanic. After reading 'Last Log' I had to re-think my book that I'm trying to write. Brown showed me that what I had always excepted may not be true, & personally made me get off my butt & do some original research (which I'm still doing lol). I do not necessarily believe all his views. nor do I believe all the views of anyone - Haas, Lord, Behe, Halpern & all the Titanic greats; but this is only BECAUSE Brown showed me (@ least) that I can think outside of the box & look beyond the excepted. On top of this there are details that Brown has introduced or interpreted that I never was aware of nor thought about. So I for one suggest anyone to please buy Mr. Brown's books.

You don't need anyone to show you how to think laterally. But then "thinking outside" does not always provide the right answers and it most certainly does not in case of the Titanic. One can always come up with alternative theories for everything and just because they are off the beaten track does not make them true.

No doubt. I am not trying to credit or uncredit anyone's views or believes. But to say negative comments via anyone's views or beliefs without suggesting that even the mere fact that you (hopefully) respectfully disagee doesn't strengthen your own resolves, says more. I just merely told what Brown's work has done for me. Sorry it did not do the same for you, but I guess I choose to remain subjective rather than objective. I do,in all sincereness appreciate ur comment. ๐Ÿ™‚

It's flattering to have my book being argued over. And, this lively discussion has stimulated sales. Thanks to all for that.

While I would love to convince everyone of the points I make in the "Myths" book, I also realize that the real good of my book is to stimulate thinking about Titanic from other points of view. Thus, Arun's comments are most welcome even though he disagrees with my opinions.

Hello Mr. Brown. I recently read your Last Log book and enjoyed it very much. I realized, before too long, that I was reading some things I hadn't before, and it became an exercise in critical thinking. I was blown away by your theories and got concerned that I might be falling for something that had already been "debunked". I stopped reading and did some research; eventually I returned and completed reading. I know how intense Titanic enthusiasts are, so I figured your theories would have been widely discussed long before I happened to read your book. I think you did a fine job of pushing some boundaries and exploring alternative theories. I'm curious to know about which ones you have revised and why, so I'll keep looking. I have become I bit of a research hound in my own work, and that has a lot to do with why my own interest in Titanic really took off. The process fascinates me, and Titanic provides limitless opportunity for research and learning. Thanks for a great book. - Matt
