Titanic: The Brothers Peracchio: Two Boys and a Dream

£20.00

This book is a 40-year research journey and labor of love, searching for Alberto and Sebastiano Peracchio, from Fubine, Alessandria, Italy, who were Ms. Harris-LoCascio’s uncles (through marriage). The brothers were crew members on RMS Titanic, working in the First Class À la Carte Restaurant. They worked for Luigi Gatti, a restaurateur and entrepreneur who owned and operated the lounge subcontracted by the White Star Line’s vendors and the Titanic’s most renowned chefs of the time.

Alberto, Sebastiano, and Luigi died on Titanic, along with the other 34 staff members of the À la Carte Restaurant. Transatlantic cable ship Mackay-Bennett recovered Mr. Gatti’s body and six other restaurant staff members. Alberto and Sebastiano’s
remains rest in the hull of the Titanic.

This book is steeped in the history of Titanic, Angelica’s family lineage from Italy to America, and documentation from the ship and Titanic’s archives. Information and photographs of Angelica’s findings are documented in this book.

Seven years ago, Angelica Harris-LoCascio travelled to Halifax, Nova Scotia to present her research to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic’s Senior Interpreter (now retired) Richard MacMichael, and to present her story and the first edition of her book. She also spoke to fellow Titanic Society of Atlantic Canada (TSAC) historians, where she met with her book designers, Deanna Ryan-Meister and Neil Meister.

Deanna and Neil took her on a tour of the local Titanic sites, including Fairview Lawn (Luigi Gatti’s place of interment, as well as four staff members); Mount Olivet (2 staff members are buried here); and Baron de Hirsch Cemeteries, where collectively 150
of Titanic’s dead are laid to eternal rest.
