Arthur Valler

Mr Arthur George Valler was born in Firozpur, Punjab, British-India.1 on 23 June 1885. The son of an English father and a Scottish mother, his parents were Arthur George Valler, a British Army soldier, and Elizabeth McKenzie. He and his four siblings were all born in India.

Arthur’s father died in India in 1893 and the family remained there for a time until at least 1899, at which point Arthur had joined the Royal Artillery. His mother remarried to a man by the name of McArthur and sometime later the family moved to Belfast, Ireland.

The 1911 census shows the family living at 32 Armitage Street in Belfast and Arthur was then described as a general labourer.

Valler’s ship prior to Titanic had been the Olympic. He joined Titanic at Belfast for the delivery trip to Southampton where he then disembarked.
The Valler family apparently did not remain in Belfast and Arthur’s final whereabouts are unclear.

Notes

  1. When joining Titanic he gave his birthplace as Belfast. The 1911 census gives his birthplace as England.
