George Angus Douglass

George Angus Douglass was born in New York City on 6 February 1876. He was the son of George Douglass, a lumber merchant of Scots-descent, and Marie LaForge, who was of French descent.

Douglass worked as a clerk in his father’s timber business, later taking over from his father and with premises at 317 West Street. He was married on 8 April 1912 to Florence May Welsh, a native of East Orange; the couple planned to honeymoon in Europe and therefore boarded the Carpathia as first class passengers.

After their experiences on the Carpathia, Mr and Mrs Douglass settled in New York and welcomed their only child, George Angus Jr, in January 1913.

In 1921 George and his wife and son sailed to Europe as passengers aboard Olympic and would continue to travel extensively.

By the 1930s the Douglass family had moved from Forrest Hills, New York to Greenwich, Connecticut where they spent the rest of their lives.

George Angus Douglass died on 29 April 1958.
