Mr Joseph Mann was born in Belfast, Ireland on 11 July 1885.1 Hailing from a Roman Catholic family, he was the son of John Mann, a mariner.
Described as a seaman from 34 Avondale Street in Belfast, Joseph was married in St Colmcille’s Church in the city on 1 November 1910 to tailoress Ellen Murphy. Their daughter Mary was born in September 1914.
Mann’s ship prior to Titanic had been the Glen Head. He joined Titanic at Belfast for the delivery trip to Southampton where he then disembarked.
Joseph Mann continued working at sea during WWI and worked aboard merchant ships into the 1920s.
Joseph Mann died in Belfast on 6 August 1955 his resting place unknown.
