Nicholas Joseph Holme was born in Liverpool, Lancashire, England on 11 June 1876. He was the son of Joseph Holme, a warehouseman, and Ellen Robertson.
He was married around 1904 to Elizabeth Errington (b. circa 1875), a native of Wakefield in Yorkshire. The couple remained childless and appear on the 1911 census living at 39 Chapman Street in Hulme, Lancashire, with Nicholas being described as a carter for the Evening Chronicle.
Holme’s ship prior to Titanic had been the Kathleen. He joined Titanic at Belfast for the delivery trip to Southampton where he disembarked.
In the following years, Holme continued to work at sea with the merchant fleet and survived both World Wars. He died in Northumberland in 1958 at the age 81.
