William Fleming

Mr William James Fleming 1 was born at 52 Skipton Street in Belfast, Ireland on 20 October 1876. He was the son of David Fleming, a labourer, and Mary Jane Bell.

Giving an address of 2 Vicarage Street, Belfast, Fleming was married in a Belfast registry office on 2 April 1898. His bride was Hannah Fraser (b. circa 1875), the daughter of a sailmaker.

By 1911 William and his wife had five children, four of whom were alive at that point. That year’s census shows them as residents of 26 Banbury Street in east Belfast and William was described as a general ship hand labourer. The family’s religion was stated as Salvationist.

Fleming’s ship prior to Titanic had been the Olympic. He joined Titanic at Belfast for the delivery trip to Southampton where he then disembarked.
