Head, Christopher (Passenger, Victim)
His younger brother, Bernard, was a Lieutenant and later captain in the Ellesmere Company of the 2nd Volunteer Battalion Kings Shropshire Light Infantry during the Boer War. He was then a major in the 1/5 TF battalion Royal Welsh Fusiliers regiment during WW1 and was killed on 13th August 1915 by sniper during the Gallipoli Campaign. Many show his death on 12 August 1915 which is incorrect like his military records. Another brother, John Alban, was a lieutenant in the 8th Suffolk Regiment, he served in and survived WW1.

Lightoller, Charles H. (Crew, Survivor)
He served in the Boer War on troopships and, in 1903, served in the Royal Navy as a Sub Lieutenant in the Royal Naval Reserve. Also, in 1913, he served in the Royal Naval Reserve as a Lieutenant and served in WW1; in 1919, he was a Royal Navy Commander with the Royal Naval Reserve. In WW2, he commanded his own boat in the evacuation of Dunkirk and was also a member of the Home Guard; both his sons were killed serving in WW2, Brian in the RAF and Roger in the Royal Navy..

Before Titanic, served as a lance corporal in the Royal Engineers and Imperial Yeomanry. Served and survived the Boer War again as a lance corporal, and during WW1, served in the Royal Navy and survived.

Smith, Captain Edward John (Crew, Victim)
As a member of the Royal Naval Reserve, he made two trips on the troopship Majestic, one in December 1899 and one in February 1900, both passing without incident. In 1903, King Edward VII awarded him the Transport Medal with South Africa clasp for his service. His daughter Helen later married; her son Simon served in the RAF and was killed during WW2.

Margaret travelled to France to work with the American Red Cross in 1914.
She went to the Picardy region to help treat wounded soldiers, bring medical supplies, and work as a nurse and ambulance driver. She also helped to get literary works translated into braille to help blind soldiers. Her son Lawrence Palmer Brown served as a captain in the American Expeditionary Force and was invalided home after exposure to mustard gas.

Two of his brothers-in-law also served. Private Jim Tyson (York and Lancs) was discharged after serving two years in France. The other brother-in-law, Walter Tyson MGC [Machine Gun Corps], served in Egypt.

After Titanic was recalled in 1913 to the Royal Navel Reserve and promoted to sub-lieutenant, during WW1 1916-1919 served on HMS Donegal and in the Far East served on HMS Suffolk. In 1919 rejoined White Star Line, and in 1927 released by the RNR with the rank of commodore. During WW2
served as an Air Raid Precautions warden in Deganwy from 1939 to 1942.

Lucas William (Crew, Survivor)
Served in WW1 and was listed as a Bosun in the Merchant Navy. He served on the destroyer HMS Derwent carrying out anti-submarine and counter-mining patrols and convoy duties. This ship was sunk off the French coast on 2 May 1917; he survived this and the rest of the war. Had a brother, Reginald Victor Lucas, who also fought in WW1.

His son, Second Lieutenant Edward C Thayer [1921-1943] was a co-pilot in the US Air Force 90th Bomber Squadron, 3rd Bomber Group [Light] in and listed as missing and presumed dead after his plane was shot down in 1943.
His other son John B Thayer IV [1918-1987] was a lieutenant [ Junior Grade] served in WW2 as a naval air force as a sailor and pilot in the US Navy, and survived.

His son, Henry Owen Wilde, started as an apprentice in the merchant service in the late ‘teens and went on to serve with distinction. He was a Beach Marshall at Normandy on the second day’s landings and was decorated by the French for some of the work he did there during the last period of the fighting, having done much to re-secure the waterways.
