Herbert Henry Lee

Mr Herbert Henry Lee was born on the 11 October 1894 at Edwards Cottages, Fairfield, Leatherhead, Surrey, the son of Alice Ruth Lee.

On November 2nd 1894, Herbert was baptised at St. Mary & St. Nicholas Church in the parish of Leatherhead, Surrey.

The exact year when mother and son (Alice Ruth and Henry) moved to Southampton isn’t clear, as neither are found anywhere registered covering the Census records for England and Wales.

He signed-on to the Titanic as a Trimmer on 6 April 1912, earning him a monthly wage of £5. 10s. 0d. His previous vessel was the Olympic, and his home address was confirmed at 94 Bevois Street Southampton.  Henry died in the sinking.

The Mother Ruth Lee is found under the same name on the Relief Fund and over the years she always received her weekly allowance. The 1939 Register founds her living with her daughter Mrs Evelyn Else Jacobs at 5 Brintons Road Southampton. 

Ruth died at 8 Brintons Road Southampton on 16 November 1950, her daughter Evelyn registered her Mother’s full name as Ruth Alice Naomi Lee, a spinster of no occupation. Ruth is buried at South Stoneham Cemetery, Southampton.
