Such is German Comment on the Mersey Report
Special Cable Despatch to THE SUN
BERLIN, July 31---The Neuste Nachrichten commenting on the report of the
British commission which has been inestigating [sic] the Titanic disaster,
says that Lord Mersey and his colleagues are eidently [sic] only concerned
with whitewashing the White Star Steamship Company and to this end
responsible persons had to be acquitted of blame.
If the result of the inquiry had corresponded to the actual state of affairs
the White Star Company would have been answerable for all the loss resulting
from the catastrophe. The paper continues:
"After all it was mostly Americans and not the sons of proud Albion who lost
their lives and property, and hence there is no need of sentimentality."
