[The opening paragraphs of this article, which do not relate to Mr. Johnson, have been omitted.]
The death of William C. Johnson, Jr., of Hawthorne, has been confirmed when his parents received a message reading as follows: William C. Johnson, fourth quartermaster, sailed on the Titanic for New York. Further than that we know nothing. Johnson was nineteen years of age and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. William C. Johnson, of Hawthorne. He was an employe of the American line steamship company, and had been in Southampton on the S. S. Philadelphia, of which he was the quartermaster. He sent a card stating that he was coming home on the Titanic and when the news of the disaster was received inquiries were made by cable, and the above message arrived yesterday. His parents are highly respected residents of Hawthorne and have the sympathy of a large number of friends in their bereavement.
