Head of Newark Jewelry Concern Was Titanic Disaster Survivor

Henry Blank, board chairman of Henry Blank Co., Newark jewelry manufacturing concern, died today at his home, 138 Ridgewood avenue, Glen Ridge, after a short illness. He was 76.

Mr. Blank, who was a survivor of the Titanic disaster, was born in Providence, R. I. He lived in Philadelphia for 17 years prior to coming to Newark as a young man. He lived in Glen Ridge 42 years.

Before starting in the jewelry business in Newark 50 years ago as a journeyman, Mr. Blank was associated for four years with the Prudential Insurance Co. and was superintendent of its Jamestown, N. Y. office. In Newark he became a partner of Newton E. Whiteside in the jewelry business in 1896, operating under the name of N. E. Whiteside & Co.

Firm Name Changed

In 1900 the name of the firm was changed to Whiteside & Blank and it was incorporated in 1906. In 1917 the name was changed to Henry Blank Co. Mr. Blank was president of the business until 1927, when he became board chairman.

Mr. Blank was a member of Kane Lodge No. 55, F. &. A. M., of Newark. He is survived by four sons, Henry M. of Short Hills, Philip E. and Carl p., both of Montclair, and Ralph E. of Summit; s daughter, Mrs., Charles F. Badger of Cynwyd, Pa.; a sister, Mrs. William C. F. Speckin of Chicago, and eight grandchildren. His wife, Mrs. Phoebe Miller Blank, died in 1942.

Rev. Charles R. Stires, rector of Christ Episcopal Church, Glen Ridge, will conduct funeral services at the home Saturday at 11 A. M. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery, Drexel Hill, Pa.
