Alessandro Pedrini

Alessandro Pedrini, 21, was born on 15 August 1890 at Osco, Kanton (or Canton) Ticino, Switzerland. His family lived in Milano and ran a grocery's shop, where they sold ice during the summertime. He spent his holidays in Osco.

In 1907 or 1908 he moved to France, he later worked in Alexandria, Egypt. From there he went to England. Together with his friends Abele Rigozzi and Mario Zanetti he was employed by Luigi Gatti to sail on the Titanic, his first ship. At this time he lived at Bowling Greene House (an Italian Club House), Southampton.

He signed-on on 4 April and began work on the Titanic on 6 April. His wages were £2 2s per month (plus tip).

Alessandro Pedrini died in the sinking. His body was possibly that identified as Pedro Ali (#104) and buried at sea.

CLOTHING - Grey suit; black boots; plain ring on left finger.

EFFECTS - Watch; gold engraved ring; memo book; 140 francs gold in purse.

THIRD CLASS.

NAME - PEDRO ALE.

 

His parents received £80 from the Lord Mayor's Fund. White Star paid outstanding wages of 8s 5d.

There is a stone memorial to Alessandro Pedrini in his home town. The stone bears an image of the young man and the following inscription.

 

Con fervida fede di lavoro, in ancor quasi tenera età, emigrava in terre lontane vago e fidente in un nuovo avvenire; miseramente, in una notte
tragica, trovava la morte nell'oceano scomparendo col Titanic; i desolati genitori e fratelli posero
With fervent faith of work, while still barely a youth, he emigrated to distant shores, uncertain but hopeful of a new future. Miserably, on a tragic night, he found death in the ocean, disappearing with the Titanic. Placed by his grieving parents and siblings.
