Last Titanic officer dies, 83 Last surviving officer of the Titanic, which went down in the Atlantic in 1912 has died at his home in Christchurch at the ago of 83. Commander Joseph Groves Boxhall was the fourth officer, and the only officer on watch at night to survive the disaster. He escaped in the port emergency boat and was picked up by the liner Carpathia . Commander Boxhall who lived at Winston Court, Stour Road, Bournemouth leaves a widow and will be cremated at Bournemouth Crematorium tomorrow. His ashes were scattered in the Atlantic at position Lat. 410 16" north and Long 500 14", which is roughly where the Titanic sank.
